We raise Cornish Cross chicken. For the first 3 weeks they are in our brooder and for the remaining 6 -7 weeks they are on pasture. Our chickens are raised in a 10 x 12 Salatin-style chicken tractor and are moved each morning. Each time they are moved they leave behind a path of nitrogen that helps the grasses grow for seasons to come. They will consume about 10 percent of their feed intake from the grasses they pass across. The other 90 percent of their diet consists of grains. Unlike cattle, chickens have a crop and gizzard that allows them to digest grains. The feed is certified organic feed from Cashton Farm and Supply. Our birds are highly nutritious and very flavorful. The best value is to buy whole birds and to break them down yourself but that is not for everyone.
