Pork

We do not keep pigs on the farm year round, instead we buy feeders from a few select breeders in the area. The current breed is Hereford. They begin their stay on the farm in the barn where they dig for corn in some winter bedding that is left from the cattle. This makes it easier to remove and compost. They also get big fast and friendly too. After a month in the barn they move out onto pasture. They have a central feeding and bedding area and are rotated around it in a pinwheel eating fresh grass as they move. They get to wallow in the mud during hot days and play in the cool mornings. They do receive grains to help grow. We mix our own feed on the farm. We have a few sources but the feed is transitional to organic, organic or at a minimum not sprayed with chemicals. This pork tastes great and is great for you.
